Over the years, K-Beauty has always been a few steps ahead. The rise of glass skin serums, PDRN treatments, and “spicule skin care” are all Korean innovations that now dominate beauty routines around the world.
Korean lash lifts leverage the same innovations that drive the ever-growing K-beauty market. “It’s perfect for people who want a subtle, sophisticated finish without using mascara every day,” says Jaimini Patel, head of VIP at BBB London. “It looks natural, is customizable, and has no maintenance or irritating formulas.”
Not only does this buzzy treatment reflect the current beauty zeitgeist for a natural, no-makeup aesthetic, but it also offers far better results for eyelash health than traditional techniques.
What is Korean style lash lift?
Korean style lash lift curls your natural eyelashes from the root, giving them a soft, natural flutter. While traditional lash lifts use a single shield and harsh thioglycolic acid formula, which can leave your lashes feeling like they’re being overtreated, the Korean method prioritizes lash health and uses a two-step technique that works the entire length of your lashes. It is said that the “growth” becomes softer and less noticeable, and the condition of the eyelashes improves after treatment.
“This is a semi-permanent treatment that curls the eyelashes from the root, making them appear longer and fuller,” explains Patel. “Products used to soften and reshape eyelashes use cysteamine-based formulas. This is a gentler alternative that prioritizes overall eyelash health and allows you to reshape your lashes from root to tip.”
How is it different from a traditional lash lift?
The difference lies in both the manufacturing method and the technique. “While traditional eyelash lifts use thioglycolic acid to break down hair bonds, the Korean version uses a cysteamine-based formula instead,” Patel explains. “In a traditional lift, only one shield is used and the formula only acts on the curve being created at the time.”
“Step one of the Korean lash lift involves pre-lifting the lashes from root to tip using a flat shield to create an even, smooth platform that allows the softener to work effectively at the roots,” Patel adds.
While both treatments help create new shape and curl, the two-step root lift of the Korean Lash Lift delivers different results and provides a considered approach to ensure even distribution of the solution. “First use a flat shield to relax your lashes, then use a second shield to create a new shape to achieve the desired curl and lift,” she added.
In contrast to a wide, heavily curled finish or “false eyelash” effect, the Korean lift creates a clean, natural, defined arc.
What you can expect from Korean lash lift
I personally enjoyed this whole experience. It was relaxing and non-irritating, and after an hour I left Liberty’s BBB salon with longer, curlier, yet natural-looking lashes.
The best part was that there was no discomfort or irritation. “Compared to traditional techniques, Korean lash lifts are less irritating, gentler and more comfortable,” Patel agrees. “The results are natural-looking, customizable, and have no noticeable lines or borders as they grow out. This approach keeps your lashes healthy and strong, and the results last six to eight weeks,” she added.
That’s true. My lashes didn’t look as dramatic, but they were instantly defined. It looks like your natural eyelashes have doubled in size, each subtly curled, so you can go weeks without mascara.
But it wasn’t just about streamlining my beauty routine that appealed to me. The long-term results were equally impressive. Over the past month, especially when I’ve been tired, I’ve noticed that my eyes look brighter and more polished without any makeup at all. Even better, my lashes are just as curled and defined as the day I left the salon.
