As I write this, the windows are wide open, a nearly 80-degree breeze is blowing into my Brooklyn apartment, and I’m drenched in sweat. What a joy after a cold winter! But what I don’t know is that the change in temperature means it’s time to take a look at my beauty routine and make some changes. Switching up your products is a must when the seasons change, like swapping out a thick barrier cream for a lightweight moisturizer or swapping out an oil-rich hair mask for a lighter anti-frizz formula. Obviously this applies to makeup, but it’s especially true to skin-tinting products, at least if you don’t want to look like an oil slick by lunchtime. Setting powders and matte formulas are your allies in combating grease and excess shine. And with spring temperatures expected for the foreseeable future, it feels like the perfect time to try out the new Rare Beauty True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation. Selena Gomez, how did you accept this new member?
“I love the way my skin looks on set, so I wanted to create a foundation that gave me the same fuzzy, velvety look but was easy and comfortable to wear every day,” the brand founders say through brand materials. Of course, having a professional makeup artist on the set of a photoshoot is a huge benefit if you want your makeup to look perfect, but I’m also a big fan of trying out the latest formulas.

Now, for the record, I’m not really a foundation wearer, but I have quite a few weddings coming up in the spring and summer, so I don’t want to blow off my photographer friend’s camera lens with my overly shiny skin. So when I heard that Rare Beauty was my darling, marie claire When I was looking to launch a new foundation to join the Liquid Touch Waitress Foundation to instill the brand throughout my team, I was intrigued. So what can you do but swatch and blend, because we all did? Keep scrolling for an honest review of the new matte foundation and whether it’ll be joining your spring/summer makeup lineup.

The brand claims this new foundation is a “self-priming and self-setting foundation with breathable medium to full coverage and a natural matte finish.” Relatively, the lightweight foundation promises to “even out skin tone and smooth pores.” translation? This is a slightly stronger formula that provides better coverage of acne, blemishes, and general uneven skin tone. It promises a non-comedogenic effect (meaning it won’t clog pores) and is also suitable for sensitive skin. Even without the use of a base, the finish is resistant to sweat, moisture, and dirt.
Again, there are 48 shades in the collection, with peach, neutral, and gold undertones reflected at nearly every shade level. The formula’s key ingredients are True Comfort ComplexTM, a skin barrier-enhancing blend of sodium hyaluronate (a salt form of moisturizing hyaluronic acid), ginger root (which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties), and algae extract (which hydrates, soothes and protects the skin). In theory, with all these skin care products, your formula should last up to 8 hours and stay fresh, especially if you have normal, oily, or combination skin types.

“My skin is quite dry, so I already had some reservations about trying a matte foundation. But like I said, the rising temperatures mean my glow is starting to go overboard, so to see if this formula suits my skin, I carefully applied a pea-sized amount of foundation to my face using a thick, fluffy brush. To be honest, I felt like the coverage was a little too strong for me, so I could have used less product. Rare Beauty products are known for delivering a huge amount of color. With just a small amount of product, I was happy to find that this formula didn’t cause any cracking or flaking, even around my nose area, where I still suffer from some irritation and dry skin. Really I want to dermaplane my face. The peach fuzz was much more noticeable than what I’ve found with other foundations and tinted moisturizers. Maybe if you used a primer (I know the brand says it’s not necessary) still) The finish could have been a little more seamless.
After having a couple of glasses of wine outdoors at sunset with friends, I was pleasantly surprised to find that overall my complexion was still even and didn’t look like I was wearing any makeup. If I have naturally oily or combination skin, I think this foundation would be more my go-to, but I think the only time I’d reach for this would be at a sweaty summer wedding and I need it to last for hours without looking shiny. ”

“I’m an oily girl and like to stick to skin tints for everyday wear (Rare Beauty’s own tinted moisturizer is one of my favorite skin products I’ve ever tried), so I’m nervous to try a medium to full coverage skin product. Even though this is a true matte, I was still surprised to see that it didn’t smudge and stayed on much longer than I expected.” feel It’s like he’s wearing something on his face. I think I’ll have to mix a few shades to get it close to my skin tone, but this is definitely something I’d be happy to use for a night out or a special occasion. ”

“I love matte makeup, but only when it’s done right. The liquid formula blends very easily and leaves a soft satin matte finish with less shine without making your skin look flat. I also didn’t have any trouble finding the shades at all. The range feels really thought out. , the undertones make it super easy to match. What I like most is that the finish shines on the high points of the face, so everything looks dimensional without being overly dull. I also love that it layers really seamlessly with other creams and liquids without weighing it down on the skin. ”

“I’m not really a fan of matte foundations, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It has a fairly thick texture (the brand calls it whipped) and provides great coverage. very Since it’s matte, I spray Naked Sundays Hydrating Glow Mist on top to revitalize my skin. But the combination of the two is a chef’s kiss. All my redness and pigmentation are camouflaged and with the right setting spray, my skin looks velvety and fresh. ”

True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation – 36 Medium Deep Warm
“I’ve been a big fan of Rare Beauty’s compression products for years, and the True to Myself Foundation is no exception. It’s matte and oily, so it’s a hit with my skin, and the medium coverage is great for everyday wear. I wear shade 36. I chose this shade, which is a little on the darker side, but it matches my undertone very well, so I’m going to continue using this shade and brighten it up with concealer. Overall, I’m happy to report that it’s also a great shade for my complexion.” ”
