I feel most confident and I think my hair is most attractive when it has a unkempt, messy volume…I find my hair most attractive when it’s not loose.
What do you think is essential?
Volume up spray is amazing. Just hitting the roots will add a lot of volume. If I had to pick one product to get sexy, unruly hair, this would be the main ingredient.
I feel like you’re known for your bouncy ’90s supermodel style. Do you have any tips for speech bubbles?
Oh my god. Now, this is going to be scary. I’m really bad at exploding on my own, but I have a trick. That’s what I did even when I couldn’t afford it in New York. i would get [a salon blowout] It lasts for 4-5 days as I just add a texture spray and a volume spray once a week. As time goes on, it becomes even sexier. Fortunately, baywatch I’m getting more glamorous every day so I just keep that explosion going. It’s good because we’re on the beach, we’re in the ocean, and our hair gets salty. It’s a live-in explosion. [that I love].
I try to keep my hair maintenance to a minimum. Wake up, pat it on with a brush, pat it on with some texture spray, maybe a little dry shampoo, and that’s it. [John Frieda’s] It’s my current favorite. I literally just use one product and poke fun at it a little bit.
I love it. Do you think you’ll ever change your signature look? Do you have any plans to go back to being a brunette or consider trying something else?
I think as my style evolves and I move into new eras and new roles, I change my style as well. I’ve never been a backwards girl, so I think I’m always feeling down about something. That’s when I feel the most confident.
I totally agree. I feel that way because I’m not a very smooth person either.
So does my sister, I get that. she does it well. But I can’t.
This interview is for a Who What Wear series called Unfiltered, so naturally we have to hear your thoughts on unfiltered beauty. What do you think are your top three beauty highlights?
It’s very difficult. Yeah, I know everyone loves the “no makeup” kind of natural girl appeal, but I’m from the South. I grew up in a contest culture, so I love full beats. I don’t care what anyone says. I love doing my own makeup and going all out. I’m a bit more of a maximalist. I think it’s beautiful when people wear minimal makeup, that’s my passionate opinion.
Now what else do I not like? I don’t like everyone to thin their eyebrows.
Yes, eyebrow trends come and go so quickly that I’m always hesitant to follow them.
I know that, but in some cases the hair may not grow back, so you need to be careful.
Well, I love what you said about Fulgram. Speaking of which, if you had to leave the house in 5 minutes, what beauty product would you apply or take with you?
Of course I would bring the John Frieda Volume Lift Push Up Texture Spray. [Being on] I need it at the beach or when I’m running around. I bring Charlotte Tilbury airbrush powder. Because it’s the best. I also bring some Clarins lip oil. It’s my favorite right now.
I love it too. What do you like?
I just love the applicator. It’s very easy. The product is very juicy and lasts a long time. The lip oil feels like it absorbs quickly, but this one actually lasts.
famously mentioned in please love me You said you would like to use your sister’s toothbrush. Do you also share beauty products?
oh my god. That means we share everything. Everything is fair game in our family. Our preparation routine is to all gather in one bathroom. No matter how big the house we are preparing, we are in cooperation with each other. We’re like, “Wait a minute, what is this? Is this new to your kit?” It’s like stealing everything. So every time one of us gets a new product, it becomes part of all our routines.
It’s so much fun. Have you recently found something in your bag that you’ve started replacing?
I have these mini perfumes that I carry with me everywhere, but they’re gone. Every time I go looking for my drawers, they’re completely gone. And of course they deny it. They say, “No, it was you. You just don’t remember. You have ADD.” I’m like, “No, it was you!” We’re going to set up some sneaky cameras to destroy them.
you should! What perfume was it?
It’s a French brand. They sent me hundreds of millions of samples. It’s called Maison Det. It’s really amazing. Mine is called Durban Jane, but there are 4 or 5 different options and they’re all great. I get a lot of compliments, and I think my sisters do too.
What types of fragrances are you usually drawn to? And do they match your signature scent?
Seeds! I mean, they’re all over the place. I have 3 or 4 of the tops and this one is a little more musky than floral, but I like it.
Okay, let’s move on baywatch. Do you have any beauty tips you can share on set?
We just started filming this week and it was like a dream. There is a spray sunscreen that my makeup artist used on me. It’s amazing because it gives your body this little shiny glow. Neutrogena from CVS. It feels like a body glow mixed with sunscreen, and I’m addicted to it. Then a makeup artist in New York said, “Oh, we always use this on red carpets.” So that’s the thing.
Oh, that’s interesting. You wouldn’t expect sunscreen to become a red carpet staple.
know! This is insane. It looks very beautiful and very natural.
I also bring John Frieda spray to the filming location. [the hairstylists] I absolutely love it. They’re like, “This is amazing.” So I gave them bottles to keep in the trailer.
Now, let’s move on to skin care. You’ve always been open about the beauty treatments you’ve had, and people really appreciate that. What’s something you’ve done recently that you can say is 100% worth it, be it a high-tech facial, Botox, injections, etc.?
ah. As you know, I went to LA Facialist [Candace Marino]I came here and she did this on me called liquid microneedling. That’s so crazy. It’s like a balm that she applies and then it becomes beady and a little grainy. It does the same thing as microneedling without the downtime. I’m into it, but I’ve never heard of it. I was scared to try it, but it was amazing.
Actually, I’ve done it before! Did you think it hurt?
It hurt so much! She was like, “It’s not bad.” And then my face flushed. Was it yours?
Yes, you can feel the little thorns every time you touch it. But it was worth it.
Every time I touched my face, I thought, “Maybe there’s a needle inside me?” It was worth it. I felt like my skin had changed.
As we head into summer, what summer beauty trends are you looking forward to this season?
I think I’ll try wearing more sunscreen. Last summer, I gave it my all. I was like, whatever! [Laughs] That sucks for me, so I’m going to work on it.
wonderful. Well, this is the question we end every Unfiltered interview with. Please tell us your unfiltered beauty philosophy in 7 words or less.
I think the more the better. More treatments in line. I just touched on it a little bit recently, but I was so young that I did some stupid things and had surgeries. Now that’s all done, let’s put everything back together. I melted all the filler. In that sense, I am natural, but I do all treatments, including facials and lymphatic drainage, without overdoing them.
And like you said, totally fascinating. The more the better.
Yeah, why? I love it. Sorry, but I really like how it looks when I have a full beat!
