{"id":549,"date":"2026-04-03T18:48:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T18:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chabrok.com\/?p=549"},"modified":"2026-04-03T18:48:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T18:48:00","slug":"jackie-and-shadows-nest-eggs-show-signs-of-hatching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chabrok.com\/?p=549","title":{"rendered":"Jackie and Shadow&#8217;s nest eggs show signs of hatching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>It looks like Big Bear&#8217;s famous bald eagles, Jackie and Shadow, are welcoming a new chick into the world.<\/p>\n<p>The first crack, or fissure, was discovered in one of the feathered duo&#8217;s two eggs around 10 a.m. Friday, reports said. <u>Friends of Big Bear Valley<\/u>is the nonprofit organization behind the popular YouTube livestream of the nest overlooking Big Bear Lake.<\/p>\n<p>More than 26,000 people watched the livestream shortly after the organization confirmed Hatori&#8217;s discovery, which indicates the eagle is beginning to emerge from its egg shell.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yesterday afternoon, evening, and all night long, we heard small cries from the chicks,&#8221; wrote friends in Big Bear Valley. <u>facebook<\/u> Over 1 million followers. &#8220;This indicates that the chick has ruptured its inner membrane and is breathing air for the first time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"Enhancement\" data-align-center=\"\">\n<ps-newsletter-module class=\"NewsletterModule\">\n<div class=\"NewsletterModule-inline-bold\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form-element\">\n<h3 class=\"newsletter-form-element-heading\">Stay up to date with LAist.<\/h3>\n<p>If you liked this article, you&#8217;ll love our daily newsletter, The LA Report. The second bird also hatched about a day after emergence, and the third bird emerged about two days after the first crack was observed.<\/p>\n<p>The chicks may look like little clumps of gray fluff at first, but they grow quickly, just as fans saw with Jackie and Shadow&#8217;s eagles last year. Jackie and Shadow can begin feeding their chicks from the day they hatch, usually by tearing off bits of fish or raw meat and holding them up in their beaks.<\/p>\n<p>Bald eagles, unlike other birds, do not regurgitate food for their chicks.
